Safety Chain Hardware

This section
is meant to help you replace worn or broken
safety chain items or upgrade your "S" Hooks to
the new regulations that require a latch or
barrier so the "S" hooks can't slip or bounce
off the towing vehicle. Chain can be purchased
at your local hardware or auto parts store. |

Rubber
Keeper Designed to meet California
safety standards, these heavy-duty rubber keepers can easily be
added to all existing safety chain 5/16" or
7/16" "S" hooks.
Keeps the hook from bouncing off the trailer.

Weld-On Chain Clips
Welding the last chain link to a trailer actually
weakens the chain strength. These chain clips are a
strong, clean, simple and an economical way to attach
safety chains to trailer tongues. Also used to attach
ramp assist springs, and chains to "S" hooks in any
application, such as butt chains. All clips have a
3/4" clearance. Steel, should be painted. |

The 2K snap hook
(rated as Class I at 2,000 lb.) takes
the place of a "S" hook. For
light
applications, such as in connecting butt
chains to the trailer divider, or for safety
chains on small, light utility trailers or
boat trailers. 3/8"
in diameter, used to connect up to 3/16"
chain. The opening is 3/4".
The 5K snap hook
(rated as Class II & III at 5,000 lbs.)
takes the place of a standard "S" hook. For
heavy applications, such as in
connecting safety chains to the trailer. 7/16"
in diameter, used to connect up to 5/16"
chain. The opening is 5/8".
*Check the diameter of the
hole on the chain link to be sure the hook
will fit in it, and the weight rating of the
chain to be sure it matches the hook. Match
the class of the chain & snap to the trailer
rating.
*The latch on these Snap
Hooks meet all the state's requirements for
safety chain hooks, including California. |
